David Peck, the designer and founder of CrOp by David Peck, took a few minutes to reflect on Aspen in anticipation of Aspen Fashion Week, March 11-14.  We are thrilled to have CrOp by David Peck featured at The Chateau at The St. Regis Aspen, and it sounds like he is equally as excited. Here is what David had to say:

What is Aspen style?
Aspen style for me is the perfect balance of sport and chic. You may be sweating, but you’re doing it in style!

Ski or ride? New gear for ’11/’12?
I’m super excited about my new Lexus CT200h. It’s a hybrid hatchback, really comfortable, and we can fit a TON of clothes in it for our trunk shows. You can’t beat the miles per gallon either!

What do you wear on powder days?
Lots of thin layers. I like being able to regulate my temperature. Really bulky clothes make me feel claustrophobic.

What’s your favorite store for basics?
Club Monaco has really great basics.

What’s your favorite store to splurge?
Barney’s

How do you après?
Little Annie’s

Most stylish barstool in Aspen?
J-Bar

Sorrels or stilettos?
Well, sorrels are more appropriate for me, but I don’t know how women do stilettos in Aspen in the winter. That could qualify as an Olympic sport.

Duct tape?
I don’t quite know how to answer that.

Where do you off-season? 
Belize is a favorite. It’s really easy to get there, and you feel like you’re on the other side of the world.

Favorite Aspen local?
Main Street Bakery and Cafe

Favorite Aspen sighting? 
The first celeb I ever saw in Aspen was Jerry Springer. I thought it was a little ironic.

Favorite Aspen “moment”?
The first summer I spent in Aspen as a student at the Aspen Music Festival and School. I practiced like crazy, took all day hikes, and worked the lunch shift at La Cantina.

To a ski lover, there are no better words than “powder day.” Here in Aspen, we live for new snow. It is no secret winter had a slow start in Colorado, but things are really turning around. In the last 24 hours, Snowmass has received 6.5” and the current conditions are powder/packed powder. It looks like Mother Nature is finally shining favorably upon us, because snow is predicted for 7 out of the next 10 days.
This wide range of weather conditions has allowed us to utilize all of our fabulous ski gear, from extra base layers to spring-weight jackets to powder skis. We are all looking forward to hitting the slopes March 11-14, during Aspen Fashion Week, so keep doing your snow dances and LET IT SNOW.

The team at AFW was fortunate enough to get a preview of next year’s mountain fashions at the SIA Snow Show and we have compiled a list that highlights all of our favorite trends for next ski season. Use these tips to stay ahead of the pack.

1. Bright Colors are extremely important for winter 12/13. Everywhere we looked there was one bold hue paired against another. We saw watermelon pink with lime green, eggplant purple with sherbet orange, and lots of brights paired with whites. Hope you have your goggles ready.

2. Fur trim is here to stay. We were delighted to see that most everything was still trimmed with fur. Whether real or faux, a touch of fur at the collar or along the hood adds such a rich touch to any jacket. Fur accessories were also all over the SIA show – love it.

3. Orange! This color is really hot for spring and that trend will carry over into next winter’s ski fashions. Both men’s and women’s styles featured this bold hue. We saw pants, jackets, sweaters, and accessories in shades of tangerine, pumpkin, and carrot.

4. Longer Hems are making another appearance. This trend is one we are really excited about. It not only elongates the torso, but also keeps snow from making its way down your ski bibs, hallelujah!

5. Interesting fabric combos were another favorite we glimpsed throughout the show. Designers were really innovative this year and we spotted treats like Skea’s leather down puffy or Nobis’ lambs wool and nylon sweaters.

The SIA Snow Show was amazing! The Aspen Fashion Week team spent the last few days in Denver with passes to the Snowsports Industries America’s tradeshow. The show is the annual see-and-be-seen, pulse-checking event for the snowsports industry. It serves as a platform for designers to showcase their next season’s merchandise to buyers and the press so that by the time the first snowflake falls next winter, the best gear and accessories are already in your favorite ski shops and boutiques.

Everyone in attendance was energized and incredibly excited to show off their products for winter 12/13. We spent hours wandering from booth to booth, drooling over the gear, accessories, shoes, and apparel for next year. Our favorite looks came from many classic designers that impress us season after season, as well as some fresh faces that we fell in love with at this year’s show.

The secret’s out – the Neve team made their way to Aspen last week for their 2012 catalog shoot.  Ok, we did know about the shoot, but one thing we didn’t know about was that there were some bold (and very impressive) pairings made from the styling team.  Behind the scenes shots released from the weekend reveal that the Courchevel Zip Neck mixed with a pair of JCDC for Rossignol pants makes the perfect marriage.
